👨🏽🎨
Alioune THIAM is a Senegalese director and video artist born in Kaolack in 1993 and living in Dakar. He specializes in projection mapping, a multimedia technology. This makes it possible to project lights or videos on volumes using a video projector and to recreate 2D and 3D images on relief structures.
He worked as a graphic designer and motion designer. Between his participation in the collaborative projection mapping project at the 12th Dakar Biennale in 2016, his digital exhibition one-week “MAPP’EXPO” at the Alliance Française de Kaolack or the workshop "CREA'MAPP" where he trained young people from his hometown in the technique, he positions himself as a specialist in this technology. Alioune recently presented his first solo exhibition of digital art in Dakar entitled: “Stubbornness: Artist I became” at the Théodore-Monod Museum of African Art from July 22 to August 15, 2023.
Twice winner of the Odyssey program of the Association of Cultural Meeting Centers (ACCR), he was the first Senegalese artist in residence at the Cultural Meeting Center, "Les Dominicains de Haute-Alsace" in January 2022, for their project "ARTIST 2.0: The creative scope of digital”. He also carried out an artist residency in another center in 2018-2019, the "Abbaye de Noirlac" where he developed a projection mapping entitled “One sound, one identity”, specially designed for the place.
His artistic approach is part of this momentum of reflection on the impact of digital technology, more particularly on the visual arts. He relies on interactivity in new forms of computer-assisted visual art in all of his creations, always with the ambition of wanting to establish a connection between his works and the public.
